Smarties Blue is Back Contest

To celebrate the return of blue Smarties, Nestle has a contest running, where you can win one of 5 MacBook Pros, or Smarties for a Year. You can enter here. I didn't win the MacBook Pro, but I'm also glad I didn't win the Smarties for a Year, because, in eating them again after a long while, and I applaud their use of natural colours, I find the taste of some of them quite off-putting, that I couldn't finish them even. Not even good chocolate to compensate! Blech!

Endangered Species Survey - Win Chocolate for a Year!

I found this chance to Win Chocolate for a Year, this time from Endangered Species. Of course, my idea of Chocolate for a Year is definitely different than theirs (what you get is a number of their premium 3 oz. chocolate bars - 72 of them, made up of their Supreme Dark Chocolate, Extreme Dark Chocolate, Smooth Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate with Mint, Dark Chocolate with Cranberries and Almonds, and Dark Chocolate with Hazelnut Toffee; what I am saying, is that the amount that they suggest, would not last me the year). Go here to complete a survey, specifically about their website, and how to improve it, and what you would like to see on it. The contest closes July 31, 2009.

Vote Tasty - Free Kashi Granola Bars

Here's your chance to try the Kashi granola bars that I've written about, go to Kashi's website and enter your shipping information to receive a coupon for a box of one of the four flavours, the newest, Trail Mix; Seven Whole Grains & Almonds; Peanut Peanut Butter; and my favourite Cherry Dark Chocolate. The idea behind this Contest, is that nutritious or health food is bound to taste like cardboard, like the box it came in, and that once you taste these granola bars, you will find that they don't. And so, you can Vote whether the bars were tasty (and thus Kashi's Laurie Timm doesn't have to eat the cardboard box), that the bars were not tasty (and he does have to eat the box), and, my favourite selection and what is leading right now, that the bars are tasty and you want him to eat the cardboard box anyways. Contest open till May 13, 2009, so there's still some time.

The Lindt Gold Bunny

Lindt is running a contest for Easter, though I came to it late. There is still time to enter, go to Lindt Gold Bunny, answer the various clues and receive an entry to the contest. Invite your friends to do so as well, and you get more contest entries. There are also codewords you can get from various store events (which are still ongoing), which garner more contest entries. The Grand Prize is $10,000. Canadian citizens only. The contest ends April 12th, so hop to it.

Green & Black's Live in the & Contest

I didn't quite understand the meaning behind this contest name, until I read on the back of a chocolate bar of theirs I recently tasted, and I quote "Our name was chosen to illustrate our blend of ethics and intense taste. Green represents our sustainable and organic principles which we employ whilst making our chocolate. Black represents the colour of our original Dark 70% chocolate bar and the intense taste of all of our chocolate.". So, "living in the &" represents the idea of living green while also enjoying the dark chocolate, or black, taste of Green & Black's.

So, Green & Black's has created a "Live in the &" Contest based on this concept, partnered with Food and Wine (or should that be Food & Wine). From their website - Just share your secret for making eco-friendly choices while not compromising on life's every day indulgences. Tell them how you "Live in the &" and balance both the green & the black in your life. If the judges select your entry, you'll win a trip for two to the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen (June 19-21 2009) - including round trip airfare for 2 to Aspen and accommodations for 3 nights, Guest passes to the Classic in Aspen Grand Tastings, insider access to the exclusive Grow for Good Dinner and passes to select seminars. Unfortunately, only open to residents of the U.S. Good Luck!

Nutella - 40 Years of Breakfast in Canada

This year marks 40 years of Nutella in Canada, and to celebrate, Nutella Canada is running a contest. Submit your best picture of your family enjoying Nutella to this contest, and you could win a $5000 Kitchen Makeover from RONA from Nutella Canada. Go here to enter. You can also find in most stores a limited edition 750 g Nutella jar celebrating 40 years of breakfast in Canada.

I'm glad to see that I was around to enjoy Nutella for most of my life, but I want to know what they were doing the first few years of my young life! Oh, only kidding. Being of German and European heritage (I am aware that Nutella is Italian, and not German, as some would think, it's owned by Ferrero, perhaps more commonly known by their chocolate-hazelnut offering Ferrero Rocher), Nutella was a part of my growing up, and I knew about its great taste long before all my North American friends, as Nutella was available in the European delicatessens way before any other kind of store. Nowadays, you can find Nutella anywhere, it seems, and it's enjoyed by a cross-section of people (not just us "Europeans").

Nutella introduced me to hazelnuts long before I even knew what hazelnuts were or that I enjoyed them so much.

Another memory from growing up - my sister and I would have this argument, she maintained that Nutella must be spread on a naked slice of bread or toast, I enjoyed it with butter spread on there first, and I'm talking soft sweet butter on bread, not on toast, which immediately melts (still do, though these days I don't use butter much, other than for baking, and so when I spread Nutella on bread, there is no pre-spread of butter, so, I still say she hasn't won, it's just circumstance that makes me eat it that way, not preference - I'll have to remind myself to put out a little butter for the weekend, now that I've created a craving for it!). Try it, you might just enjoy it.

Here are a couple recipes to get you baking with Nutella, Chocolate Nutella Honey Cake and Nougat Crescents.

Thanks, Nutella, for the wonderful taste of the hazelnuts and the memories!! Here's to 40 more!!

Win Lindt Chocolate for a Year!!

I was in Sears on Sunday, and I noticed that they had a large setup for Lindt chocolate, albeit it was hidden downstairs. One of cardboard displays had an information sheet for this contest currently running to win Lindt Chocolate for a year or a Lindt Chocolate Gift Pack. You don't need the information sheet, I'll tell you what it is. Go to Discover Lindt to enter. You need to give them your personal information, address and so forth, and you need to enter in 2 UPC codes from any of their family chocolate bars, the ones that are 100 g in size (though you don't need to actually buy one of their bars, but why wouldn't you, you can write down 2 UPC codes from any two bars). You can enter once per day per household, contest closes July 31st, 2008.

My definition of Chocolate for a Year is likely different than their definition, mine is much higher in quantity, and hopefully they send it in monthly increments, otherwise I'd eat it sooner than the year. Their definition comes out to about $1200 worth of Lindt chocolate, while the 2nd prize is worth approximately $100.
