Luna & Larry's Organic Coconut Bliss - Pineapple Coconut

This is the second of Coconut Bliss's coconut milk-based ice creams that I've tried. This is the one that my beautiful Bride selected; mine was Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge, which I enjoyed. This ice cream tastes more like pineapple to me than coconut, it has both pineapple and pineapple juice concentrate, along with coconut extract and rum extract for flavour. It does taste pretty good, very pineapple-y, and not sweet at all. I would eat this one again.

Luna & Larry's Organic Coconut Bliss - Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge

I had heard about this new more-healthy ice cream before, but it was, apparently, mostly sold in the States. This past weekend we came across a Tasting at Organic Garage in Oakville, and decided to check it out. The idea of Coconut Bliss, is that, instead of cow’s milk cream, it uses coconut milk. Coconut milk is used to make ice cream in Thailand, so this is not a new concept, save for North America. Each of Coconut Bliss’s ice creams also contain other healthy ingredients; they use agave syrup as a sweetener, which is low glycemic; all of their ingredients are Organic. The one I selected was their Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge.

How does it taste?. Quite good, and not overwhelmingly like coconut (save for their Naked Coconut one). The fudge is a small strip of agave sweetened cocoa and not too sweet at all. The hazelnuts are quite large chunks, though soft, and not crunchy. This is a small container, similar to how Haagen Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s market their ice creams, so no large bowls. Overall, I would say I enjoyed this ice cream, and more so than Dark Chocolate one I sampled.

Breyers Double Churn Dark Chocolate Velvet

The second of the new flavours of ice cream from Breyers that I tasted is all chocolate. True to its name, the ice cream tasted velvety on my tongue, and the chocolate was very flavourful, but not intense. Along with the extra chocolate comes extra sugar; this is sweeter in taste than the natural vanilla one that I like. And still prefer over this one.

Breyers Double Churn Banana Cream Pie Ice Cream

I admit to one (well, one of several) indulgence, that is banana cream pie, which I usually find and consume in Chinese Buffet restaraunts (oddly enough); there usually is coconut cream pie, also good, and chocolate cream pie, but it's the banana one that I like the best. This is the one that you find in the freezer section in most supermarkets, made by McCain. The pie is often in that semi-frozen state when you eat it. So, when I saw the new flavour from Breyers, Banana Cream pie, with a swirl of graham cracker crumbs (like the McCain banana cream pie has for its pie shell) and a swirl of cream (like the whipped cream the McCain banana cream pie has), I knew I had to try it. And, it does taste like the pie that I indulge in, though it also has the ice cream taste. The graham cracker crumbs are an odd mouthfeel for an ice cream. Overall, this was interesting and good, but, like the pie it represents, I would eat this only very occasionally.
